Obafemi Martins started life in Spain on a high as he helped Levante to a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
The Nigerian, who’s been handed the number 24 jersey, came from the bench to
help his team peg back from a goal down as he employed his speed to great effect in the game.
Sociedad took the lead through David Zurutuza on 22 minutes but Levante fought back into the game in the second half as coach Juan Ignacio Martinez brought on Martins to change the complexion of the match.
Making an immediate impact on the encounter, Martins had a goal disallowed for offside. The home team eventually got a foot back in the game when Inigo Martinez hauled down Nabil El Zhar for a penalty.
Jose Javier Barkero stepped up to convert the kick on 70 minutes to give Levante a lifeline.
The visitors were eventually undone by the speed of Martins who broke their hearts with his well taken goal on 85 minutes to send the Valencia City stadium into delirium
Martins celebrated his debut strike with his trade mark back flips.
