Per usual, stars went through the ups and downs that come with rollercoaster celebrity relationships. And some of our favorites suffered seriously heart-wrenching moments.
Here are the ten shocking celebrity splits of 2012:
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: Yes, that one… After the initial settlement in July, Tom and Katie officially became NOT TomKat in August. The news caught headlines and back-to-back-to-back People mag covers when the “Dawson’s Creek” vet surprise-filed for separation unbeknownst to the Mission Impossible actor.
Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattison: When Kristen was caught sneaking around with Snow White and the Huntsmen director Rupert Sanders it literally caused Twihards to break out in tears. No worries, though, KStew and Rob seem totally cool now.

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis: It was perhaps the saddest news of the summer. In June, Johnny Depp—everyone’s favorite pirate—parted ways with his longtime love Vanessa Paradis.
Heidi Klum and Seal: Aside from Kim Kardashian, Heidi and Seal's relationship is probably one of the most dragged out and ever-present separations of all time. Of course, the whole “fornicating with the help” that Heidi was accused of didn’t help much, either.
Rob Kardashian and Rita Ora: It inexplicably caught WAY more buzz than expected when we announced that Rita was excessively unfaithful to Rob K. He celebrated singlehood by launching a sock brand and pretending to be “very, very happy.”
Mark Sanchez and Eva Longoria: Reportedly one of the more amicable splits on the list, there was supposedly “no drama” when the couple split. They cited scheduling conflicts at the time.

Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran (and Rihanna): I don’t even know to even begin with this messy love triangle. All you really need to be up to speed is that Chris Brown loves both Karrueche Tran and Rihanna, and he may or may not be dating both of them.
Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy: Late in October, Conor became the latest addition to the list of “Dudes That Have Dated Tay Tay and Have Since Moved On.” Taylor has moved on too—to One Direction’s Harry Styles.
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: Another makeup/breakup back-and-forth that kept us on ours toes for weeks...Trouble started when Justin was photographed spending a little too much time with Victoria Secret Angel Barbara Palvin. As far as we know, they are probably back together…
Tina and Joe Simpson: Jessica’s Simpson’s pops had a bit of a bizarre transition this fall. He and his wife filed for divorce in October and he has since stepped out with a new look that some have suggested makes him look SUPER gay.
